A writing friend via zoom

Created by Sue 3 years ago

Dear Gillian and Family,

I first got to know Paul on a short writing course through Cambridge University last year and I was delighted to meet up with him again on the recent non-fiction writing certificate. This time round the group meets via zoom and it means we’ve been able to see each other. Whilst I favour the subdued lighting approach, there was Paul smiling away and clearly enjoying himself, judging by his wonderful chuckles of laughter!

Whilst several of us were aware that Paul was very unwell, it is still a profound shock to hear of his passing and we’re going to miss him very deeply. Having said that, what a pleasure and honour it has been to do the course with him. Rarely have I met someone as thoughtful, kind, generous and humble. He said some very lovely things about my own literary efforts and I treasure his comments. Paul shared his writing with us and that’s when we heard about his beloved bench and the view he so enjoyed. I too have a similar place where I can survey the countryside - in this case Shropshire - and I thought of him this morning when I was there with my dog.

Thank you Paul for being a fellow student and for your wisdom and kindness.

Sending love to you,

Sue

xx
